DEAFBLIND SCOTLAND EVENTS
This spring, Deafblind Scotland has organised two events to raise funds to support our vital work with deafblind adults.

First up is our “Just Try It” event on 20th April. It’s not a run - it’s a walk in Strathclyde Park. It’s not a race - it’s more a life-changing experience. It’s suitable for all ages and fitness levels and may well be of interest to a range of people.

More traditionally, we have our 10k/5k event on 10th May in Bishopbriggs.

For more information and application form, please download an Run Application Form (84KB).

VAL LAUNCHES THE STARAN GARDEN CARE AND SUPPORT SERVICE

STARAN is being re-organised as a social enterprise by Voluntary Action Lewis.

This means it is still our intention to offer a garden care and support service to the community, but we hope to improve, expand and develop that service as well as increase employment and training opportunities at the same time. We are going to offer our customers the following service, referred to in the customer request section.

The new service can do one off jobs or do work for our customers weekly, fortnightly or three weekly depending on what you want.

For more information click here.

VAL LAUNCHES CEUM ÙR PROJECT

Voluntary Action Lewis has recently launched the Ceum Ùr ICT Recycling project, which aims to reduce waste in the community by finding new uses for unwanted computing equipment.

See the Ceum Ùr section of this website for details.

PEDAL POWER FOR VOLUNTEERS

Jordan Montgomery and his mother Margaret Ann tried out some pedal power on a specialist tricycle purchased by Voluntary Action Lewis for its Open Sesame project.

Alasdair Nicholson, Chief Executive of VAL, said:

“The Open Sesame project has been working with children, families and volunteers over two distinct phases, and the acquisition of this special trike is an extra resource for families and children as we look ahead. The trike can be pedalled by a family member or an able volunteer, and can open up a new experience for children, young people or even adults in the passenger seat. I am grateful to Kenneth M Murray for donating £500 to help with the purchase of the trike, which I am sure will be well used over the summer.”
