UNDERLYING PRINCIPLES
Based on knowledge of local geography, history and culture, and also
its existing resources, VAL subscribes to the following principles:
- OPEN DOOR - we offer an accessible base for groups or individuals to make contact with, and use, facilities and staff.
- VOLUNTARY ACTION - we value all voluntary action equally and aim to give support and service to any group or individual offering this to enable a positive outcome.
- JOINT WORKING - in recognition of limited resources, and extent of need, we will undertake to work jointly with other organisations, both statutory and voluntary, to ensure coverage of issues.
- INTEREST GROUPS - we will welcome into membership all local voluntary groups, affiliates and business members wishing to affiliate.
- NON-JUDGEMENTAL - we will subscribe to a non-judgemental approach to any individual or group approaching us, and deal with any query without prejudice or preconception.
- GEOGRAPHIC COVERAGE - we would aim to cover all of Lewis by encouraging geographic representation on our board, so far as possible, and by communication with local contacts in each area. Recognition is also given to the fact that some areas of work have a wider geographical application.
