COMMUNITY PLANNING

The Western Isles Community Planning Partnership comprises 4 forums - the Local Economic Forum; the Community Wellbeing Forum; the Language & Culture Forum and the Lifelong Learning Forum.

It is proposed that the Community Wellbeing Forum take the responsibility for integration of the SIP and its subsequent operation. Taken together, the following aims represent the aims of the CPP itself:

Local Economic Forum - "through working in partnership, we will strive to create a sustainable, diverse economy where everyone has the opportunity to undertake satisfying work".

Community Wellbeing Forum - "to achieve the best possible health and well being for everyone in the Western Isles".

Language & Culture Forum - "to preserve, enhance and promote the culture and heritage of our island and ensure that opportunities for culture, leisure and recreation are readily available to all".

Lifelong Learning - "to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential through community participation and learning".

The Community Wellbeing Forum will handle SIP integration and its subsequent operation and the following strategic objectives of the Wellbeing Forum have been approved by the CPP:

  • Everyone has access to good food, water, shelter and fuel at a reasonable cost
  • Peoples' good health is protected through the creation of safe, clean, pleasant environments and health services that emphasise prevention of illness as well as proper care of the sick
  • Levels of illness and health damaging behaviours are maintained at as low a level as possible
  • People live without fear of personal violence from crime or persecution because of their personal beliefs, race, gender or sexuality
  • Everyone has access to, and is encouraged to develop, the skills, knowledge and information needed to play a full part in society
  • Communities and individuals have the confidence to achieve their potential
In addition to these strategic aims, the Wellbeing Forum has the following underpinning principals:
  • Community involvement and participation by people of all ages
  • Sustainability
  • Targeting resources at those most in need
  • Sharing information and baselines
  • Working in partnership in a coordinated way to deliver services more effectively
  • Equality and equity of access
